Start with a proposal

Identify the manufacturer, exact model, intended use, official specifications and media contact. Explain whether the sample is a loan or proposed gift, its value, return requirements and image permissions. Do not ship equipment until the publisher confirms acceptance and arrangements.

Independent evaluation

Acceptance does not guarantee coverage or a favorable conclusion. Advertising is handled separately. A hands-on review needs real testing notes, conditions, limitations, advantages and disadvantages. Untested equipment is labeled as a preview or announcement.

Sample disclosure

Before publication, editors must record whether the sample was purchased, supplied, loaned, returned or retained, and disclose relevant relationships in the article. The publisher confirms return and retention terms before accepting a sample.
